This guy is my hero……

March 31, 2011

It’s no secret that I have one of the world’s worst diets.  Rather than the traditional basic food groups of fruits, vegetables, grains….my diet subscribes to the basic food groups of grease, fat, salt, sugar and meat.   I think the only thing that prevents me from weighing 400lbs is the fact that I put in an lot of time at the gym and on my bike.

However, enter “McRunner”  Everyone has heard of the crazy documentary film SuperSize Me where Morgan Spurlock ate nothing but McDonald’s meals for 30 days.  Spoiler alert:  the results were not good.  But then along comes Joe D’Amico, AKA McRunner.  Not only did Joe challenge himself to eat only McDonald’s meals for 30 days…..this guy then set a goal of running a sub 2:36 time in the LA Marathon!

 This guy is my hero......

There are a ton of details including his training log and food diary on his blog at www.mcrunner.com and the one thing that jumps out is Joe was actually able to eat “somewhat” healthy at Mickey D’s by not going anywhere near their fries, eating a lot of grilled chicken snack wraps, and salads.  I suppose if he wanted to leap into the world of the ultimate junk food ironman….he’ll have to start powering down Big Macs, double cheeseburgers and McNuggets and then running a sub 2:36! (he does have a McRib locator on his blog….so I give him props for that at least)

But here’s the best part.  Joe donated $1 to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicago and Northwest Indiana (RMHCCNI) for every person who became a fan of his McRunner Facebook page through March 20th or this year, up to $2500.  In addition to his own personal donation, Joe started a fundraising page and to date as raised over $40,000 for RMHCNI!  If you’d like to contribute to Joe’s effort, please visit his FirstGiving page by clicking HERE

20110323 075756 Why I Love Wedding Planners....

Aside from the obvious reasons of keeping everything organized and running on time, there is another reason that I love working with wedding planners. Im not ashamed to admit that the last thing that I’m going to think about at 11pm after working all day is bringing flowers home to my wife.

Fortunately at this past weekends wedding as I was checking out and saying goodbye to Michele Mottola, she was simultaneously pulling a small selection of roses off of the large floral display at the venue, and handed them to me saying “take these home to your wife and surprise her in the morning.”. No only does Michele make sure everything runs great on the weddingnday, she makes me look good to my wife as well!

Unfortunately our 3 year old Jack tried to steal my thunder. Upon seeing the flowers on the table the next morning he says “look mommy, I got those for you!”.

Happy Birthday Grandma!

March 21, 2011

Last year we made these low key, black & white portraits of Jack, Conner, Anthony, Grace, and Ally for their Grandmother’s birthday.  She liked them so much, that we had to extend the offer to update the portraits for her birthday every year!  Here is this year’s edition of the set!

Although he doesn’t know it, Conner is going to be the real “winner” out of this series because the first version, last year, he was only a few months old.  So now he’ll have a complete set of portraits made on an annual basis, all done in the same style as well.  I wish I could say that for the other kids, but the portraits that mark different points in their lives up to this point all look a bit different with different lighting, background and style choices.

See The Difference

March 11, 2011

I’m a member of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and they recently released a video suggesting why you should hire a professional photographer for your families biggest moments, vs hiring a friend or amateur who happens to have a really nice camera.

Opening New Doors…..

March 10, 2011

Earlier this week I volunteered some of my time to photograph the mock up of a family room at the Ronald McDonald House near the new Children’s Memorial Hospital.  The mockup is vital to the fund raising efforts because as of today, the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House is nothing more than a large hole in the ground in the Streeterville neighborhood.  Brochures, computer and artists renderings are a good start, but being able to actually see what one of the new rooms looks like really brings to life how much the new house is raising the bar when it comes to it’s mission of offering comfort, support and care for families of children undergoing treatment at hospitals around the country.

One feature of all the rooms at the houses is a journal, which families staying at the house are encouraged to write in during their stay.  At first I thought it was just a neat little touch that the House offers, and a cool way to have people say nice things about their stay.   But reading through some of the entries, you really see how important the mission of the Ronald McDonald Houses is.  Once you’ve read the words of a mother writing about sitting next to the bed as her 3 year old child passes away, talking about the process she’s going through and how she’ll move on……you’ll find it in your heart to support this incredible organization.

If you’d like to schedule a tour of the model rooms which is on display at the Ronald McDonald House near Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, please contact Jaime Haberkorn at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicago and Northern Indiana at (630) 623-5533

I’m thinking about creating a new type of product specifically geared towards high school seniors, and I’m looking for a couple of current high school juniors who would like the opportunity to model.  In exchange for your time, you’ll receive a complimentary package of prints, as well as provide your parents with the opportunity to order portraits at discounted rate.

seniorsblogmodels We Want YOU...classes of 2011 and 2012!

If you’re interested, First make sure you “Like” me on Facebook by clicking HERE…..then send me a Facebook message or an email to Jay@jacphoto.net and list the following information

  • your current year in school

I’m only going to offer a couple of complimentary model sessions, so get your “applications” in soon!  Also, the offer is open to anyone in the greater Chicago area, but I may extend the number of complimentary sessions if I get enough interest from students at the following schools:

If you’re happy with the portraits that you get out of LifeTouch, VIP or Root, then this is probably not the right fit for you.  However if you’re interested in having a senior session that looks completely different from your friends, a session that you actually get to help design, then drop me a line and let’s chat!
