Yesterday I had the privilege to donate my time to photograph children at University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital for Flashes of Hope. Flashes of Hope is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to creating and powerful, uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

Hopefully when you look at these images you don’t see ill-children…..hopefully you’ll see faces filled with spirit, determination, soul, optimism, and most importantly, hope.

Almost one year to the day I posted Julie & Ryan’s Northwestern University themed engagement session photos. Well this past weekend everything came together for their spectacular wedding at Chicago’s Standard Club. Here’s a sample of some of the photography from their big day!

The floral centerpieces created by Virginia Wolff were the talk of the wedding reception….(at least until the bride walked in!)

Mary Winslow of Take the Cake was commissioned to create Julie’s contemporary Northwestern themed purple and white wedding cake

If you’re looking for a live band at your wedding or event, your search should begin and end with Entourage. These guys can seriously bring it…I don’t think the dance floor was even close to empty all night!

Huge thanks go out to everyone else involved with Julie & Ryan’s special day. Venue lighting and design provided by Frost Lighting, and last but not least, event co-ordination by Mindy from Affairs With Linda made sure every detail was in place and everything ran on time! Thanks again!

I thought Craig’s Spiderman cufflinks were pretty cool, definitely one of the more unique cufflink ideas I’ve seen this season which made for some cool pictures……

But then I realized that ALL of the groomsmen had comic book/superhero/action figure type cufflinks!  In the above image are Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Transformers, something from the game Halo, and one I’m not sure about. I was a bit surprised nobody had a secret decoder ring to give to the bride!
After everyone was dressed and presentable for the ceremony, we hopped across the expressway and over to Chicago’s Botanic Gardens for the bridal party and Bride & Groom wedding photographs….

Apparently Craig really got into the whole Spiderman thing before we started his grooms portraits!
This wedding party could not stop laughing and having a great time all day.  Despite the fact that it was really hot and humid outside, everyone was in a great mood!

I have no idea what was going on here…..but it’s a funny picture shot sometime after the wedding ceremony!

As if the cufflinks weren’t enough….the wedding bridal party entrance was a “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme complete with sword fighting bridesmaids!

Aubyn Beth

August 19, 2009

After shooting Melissa & Dave’s Wedding back in June, I found out that not only was Melissa’s maid-of-honor, Aubyn, a kick-ass MOH and veil holder, but she’s also a pretty talented singer as well. So what better way to combine the two by putting a few of Melissa’s images together with one of Aubyn’s tracks!

This past Sunday’s wedding was full of nostalgia because Tammy and Kurt’s wedding cremony was at the same church my wife and I were married in, and their wedding reception was at the gorgeous Hotel Orrington which is about two blocks from where I used to live in Evanston. It was pretty cool to stand at the back of the chapel and hear Tammy and Kurt recite the same vows that my wife and I recited several years ago.  It was also pretty cool to take their pictures in and around the church, hotel, and Evanston lakefront because having grown up in the area, it was pretty easy to find locations and spots to create their wedding photographs!

ISPWP Summer 2009 contest

August 17, 2009

The Summer 2009 contest results from the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers were announced today, and luckily I was fortunate enough to place one image from Megan and Michael’s wedding earlier this year! My summer crop of images didn’t place overall as well as my spring entries, however considering the serious talent associated with this group, it’s pretty cool to see your name alongside some of the best in the business no matter how many times you place!
